Profile: I
grew up in Madison, New Jersey, a suburb of New York City, and attended college
at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania during the late 1960s. After
receiving a Bachelor?s degree from Lehigh in 1970, I spent the next 8 years
gaining a variety of life experiences. During this period, I developed a
strong interest in environmental science and returned to university life
in 1978, enrolling in Virginia Tech Agronomy Department. This second attempt
at higher education was more successful than the first, as I moved on the
graduate study after completing an undergraduate degree. It is a privilege
to serve as a member of the Crop and Soil Environmental Science faculty,
where my work involves development and application of scientific knowledge
to address real-world environmental problems including mine restoration and
water quality. My primary teaching assignment is Fundamentals of Environmental
Science (ENSC 3604). One of the great pleasures of academic life is getting
to know students, seeing them grow personally and professionally.
