Profile: I was born and raised in central New Jersey until fleeing to a rural and pristine environment in 1970, when I began my undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut. In 1974, I received a B.A. in Biology, which led to an interest in plant and soil sciences. I received an M.S. from the University of Massachusetts (1978) and a Ph.D. from the Unversity of Georgia (1982). I have been married since 1975 to Lisa, with whom I helped raise our two sons -- Justin and Dylan -- whose sports and musical interests mirror those of my wife and me. We spend our free time reading, gardening, biking, swimming, working out at the gym, and attending soccer matches and Grateful Dead concerts.
