Profile: I grew up in Marion, Iowa where I began playing golf at age six. Throughout junior and senior high school I worked in the Pro Shop and helped maintain the golf course, while I continued to hone my golf game. I attended Iowa State University with the intention of becoming a golf course superintendent. I met my future wife whle studying inorganic chemistry, but we didn't actually marry until 15 years later. In 1989, I left Iowa to pursue graduate degrees in Colorado. I received my Ph.D in turfgrass science from Colorado State University in 1998. After reconnecting with Stacey in 1999, we were married in 2000 and shortly after moved to Blacksburg where I enjoy training Virginia's future turfgrass managers and conducting applied research to solve their agronomic challenges. Stacey and I enjoy hiking and camping with our three dogs, and the challenge of renovating an older house in Blacksburg.
