Profile: My childhood home was a dairy farm in northeastern Kentucky. I earned a B.S. degree in agriculture from Berea Colege, Berea, Ky. My M.S. & Ph. D. degrees were completed at Virginia Tech in the areas of soil fertility with specific emphasis on micronutrient requirements and fertilization of corn and soybeans.After graduation I worked as an agronomist for a large(350 cow dairy).diversified farm in southside Virginia. From that position I moved to a "Research and Development Specialist" job with an agricultural chemical corporation and covered Ohio and Kentucky. I joined the faulty at Virginia Tech in 1977. I teach soil fertility and management, chair the Research and Graduate Studies activities for the Department, and have a partisl extention appointment for work with farmers, extension agents, and agribusiness in the areas of soil fertility and crop management. My wife Sharon and I have 4 children and two dogs. We enjoy Blacksburg, the many students we have come to know through the years, and the people of the agriculture industry of Virginia. My hobbies are being a beach bum for at least a week aeach summer, swimming, and looking at crops.
