Professional Activities and Interests

  • Teaching : Soil Survey and Taxonomy, Soil Description and Interpretation, Soil Interpretations Using Geographic Information Systems and Decision Support Systems, Wetland Soils and Mitigation (1/3), Adv. Wetland Soil (1/3), On-line Master's level Wetland Soils (1/3).
  • Research : Soil carbon sequestration; mined-land reclamation; wetland soils; landscape modeling using decision-support software, remote sensing, and GIS; and urban soils.
  • Outreach: Training professionals in wetland soils and basic soils.
  • Service: Numerous professional scoiety activities, numerous committees at department level through international level, advisor to Soil Judging at Virginia Tech.

Personal Activities and Interests

I like to play all sports, especially basketball. I enjoy all outdoor activities, gardening, and reading about nature, envirnomental science, geology, archaeology, and paleontology. I like spending time with my family. I like to follow college sports and am a sports fan of Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Cornell, and University of Florida, the schools that I attended or worked at.
