Welcome to the Department of Crop and Soil Environmental Science
As our name suggests, we have a highly interdisciplinary group trained in the basic sciences such as chemistry, physics, genetics, geology, and biology, who focus their expertise on two critically important issues:
* Ensuring sustainable crop production
* Improving soil, water, and environmentalquality.
Our integrated research, teaching and outreach programs range from very basic research at the molecular and nano-scales to the design and implementation of management practices at the watershed scale for farmers, environmental managers, and homeowners.
In addition to our Bachelor of Science degrees in Crop and Environmental Science, we are the coordinating department for Virginia Tech's Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science. We also offer Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Crop and Soil Environmental Science, and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, in affiliation with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.
As a Land-Grant University, Virginia Tech has a mandate to provide research, teaching, and extension programs that address important economic and quality of life issues in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as at the regional, national, global scales. Now in our 95th year, the Department of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences has pursued that Land Grant mission with great energy, pride, and impact.
